The difference in one list
- Privacy — a shared boat carries up to forty strangers; the yacht carries only your group, up to twelve.
- Route — the day boats run a fixed line along the cave coast; on a charter you choose, and you can stay anchored where the swimming is good.
- Timetable — fixed departure and return on the shared boats; on the yacht it is built around you.
- Pricing — per person on the boats, per boat on the yacht. That is the whole reason the maths flips with group size.
- Atmosphere — the galleons run a foam party and an animation crew. The yacht is as loud or as quiet as you make it.
- Best for — shared boats suit families and anyone travelling on a budget; the yacht suits couples, groups and occasions.
Where the money actually crosses over
Two people on the pirate boat is €40 and on the Starcraft €70. No charter competes with that, and we will not pretend otherwise — if there are two of you and the budget matters, take the shared boat and spend the difference on dinner.
A group of ten is a different calculation. Ten adults on the Starcraft is €350 for a fixed nine-hour day on a boat with forty other people. A charter for the same ten is quoted, and it buys the whole deck, your own route and your own hours. That is the range where most of our charter enquiries come from.
When the yacht is worth it at any group size
When the day is the occasion rather than the activity. A proposal, an anniversary, a birthday, grandparents who cannot manage a crowded deck, a guest who needs quiet — none of those work on a boat with a foam cannon.
Also when timing matters. The shared boats leave when they leave. If you want to be on the water for the light at the end of the day, or out early before the wind gets up, that is a charter.
What does not change between them
The coast. Both run the same stretch — under the castle headland, west past Pirates' Cave, the Lovers' Grotto and the Phosphorus Cave. Nobody is selling you a secret shoreline.
Round-trip hotel transfer is included either way, you pay on the day you sail either way, and either way you can cancel free up to 24 hours before.
